How we help
- Budget first: we work out a comfortable repayment before you fall in love with a car.
- Pre-approval: where the lender offers it, you shop knowing your limit, like a cash buyer.
- Compare properly: rate, comparison rate, fees, term and any balloon, set out side by side.
- Quick, complete lodgement: documents collected digitally and the application lodged promptly. The lender makes the final decision.
Our panel includes specialist lenders such as Firstmac Asset Finance and WISR Asset Finance, alongside major banks. Buying for your business? See Equipment & Asset Finance.
Before you sign
Look at the comparison rate as well as the advertised rate, check for early repayment fees, and make sure the repayment still works if your circumstances change. If we charge a fee for a car loan, we tell you in a Credit Quote before we start. See our Credit Guide.
Common questions
Should I get a secured or unsecured car loan?
A secured car loan uses the car as security, so lenders usually offer a lower rate, but there are limits on the age and type of car. An unsecured loan has no security, so it suits older cars, private sales of unusual vehicles or buyers who want flexibility, but the rate is usually higher. We set out both so you can compare the total cost.
Can you finance a used car from a private seller?
Yes. Many lenders finance private sales. Expect a few extra steps, such as a PPSR check to confirm there is no money owing on the car, and sometimes a valuation or inspection. We guide you through what the lender needs.
What is a balloon payment?
A balloon (or residual) is a lump sum left owing at the end of the loan. It lowers your regular repayments, but you pay more interest overall and need to pay, refinance or sell the car to clear it at the end. We show you the numbers with and without one.
Is dealer finance a bad idea?
Not necessarily, but it is worth comparing before you sign. Getting pre-approved before you shop means you know your budget and can negotiate on the car’s price rather than the monthly repayment.
Can I buy the car through my business?
Yes. If the car is mainly for business use, a chattel mortgage or lease through your ABN may suit. See our Equipment & Asset Finance page. How it is treated for GST and tax depends on your circumstances, so check with your accountant.
Will applying hurt my credit score?
Every formal application is recorded on your credit file, and several in a short time can count against you. We do a preliminary credit assessment first and recommend a lender before anything is lodged, rather than applying with several lenders at once.
